If New York is the city where dreams are made, then Frieze New York became the place where those dreams sparkled like stardust.
This spring, De Beers and its iconic A Diamond Is Forever platform unveiled Voyage Through the Diamond Realm, an immersive installation that transformed visitors’ understanding of diamonds from luxury treasures into cosmic storytellers.
Presented during Frieze New York, the experience invited guests to embark on a dazzling journey spanning billions of years. Rather than beginning in a jewelry box, the narrative started among the stars themselves.
The installation explored the extraordinary origins of natural diamonds, tracing their formation from ancient stardust forged deep within stellar environments to their eventual discovery across rivers, deserts, and landscapes throughout Southern Africa. Through breathtaking visual storytelling, layered soundscapes, and intricate scenography, the exhibition connected science, mythology, heritage, and human imagination.
As Lynn Serfaty, General Manager of Natural Diamonds at De Beers, explained, diamonds connect humanity to its origins. That philosophy echoed throughout the experience, where visitors found themselves immersed in stories that linked the heavens above with the Earth beneath their feet.
What made the installation especially compelling was its global collaboration. Artists, artisans, and heritage specialists from Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and France contributed their expertise, creating a richly textured exploration of diamonds as both natural wonders and cultural symbols.
The evening’s glamour continued downtown at Markette, where an intimate dinner unfolded amid another remarkable artistic experience.
At the center of the gathering was Matter of Eternity, an installation conceived by visual artist and Dreamcore Co-Founder Nasir Dean. Dean challenged guests to reconsider diamonds not as status symbols, but as ancient vessels of cosmic memory.
His work explored the same elemental forces that shape both stars and diamonds: gravity, pressure, transformation, and time itself. Through celestial imagery and organic structures, Dean drew striking parallels between the architecture of the universe and the crystalline perfection of a diamond.
One of the installation’s most captivating pieces was the “Diamond Zebra,” a luminous tribute to Botswana. By reimagining the nation’s beloved symbol through diamonds and light, Dean created a work that celebrated resilience, unity, endurance, and identity. The result was both contemporary art and cultural homage, a shimmering reminder that beauty often emerges through time, pressure, and perseverance.
And because this was New York, the guest list glittered nearly as brightly as the diamonds themselves.
Among those attending were Sharon Stone, Swizz Beatz, Ciara, Julia Fox, designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, jewelry designers Jade Trau, Jean Prounis, and Lorraine West, along with cultural tastemakers, artists, collectors, and diplomats including Wilbard Hellao.
What lingered long after the final toast wasn’t simply the sparkle. It was the story.
In a city that moves at the speed of tomorrow, Voyage Through the Diamond Realm reminded guests that some of the most extraordinary objects on Earth began their journey billions of years ago. Before they became engagement rings, red-carpet jewels, or treasured heirlooms, they were fragments of the universe itself.
At Frieze New York, De Beers delivered something far more meaningful than an exhibition. It offered a meditation on time, transformation, and our connection to the cosmos.
For one luminous evening, diamonds weren’t merely forever.
They were eternity.
