With more than 6,000 members and guests descending upon the Shreveport Convention Center, the city didn’t just host a conference—it experienced a cultural and economic infusion, with an estimated $11.3 million impact rippling through local businesses. And as Dr. Shawn E. Simmons, South Central Regional Director, so aptly framed it, this was about “betting on service and sisterhood.” Not a gamble—more like a guaranteed return.

Beyond the polished luncheons and standing ovations, AKA delivered where it matters most—on the ground.
In collaboration with the WIN Foundation of Louisiana and State Representative Steven Jackson, members rolled up their sleeves for the Bayou Beautification Project at Cherokee Park Elementary School. Think blooming flower beds, refreshed outdoor spaces, and a campus transformed into something that whispers possibility to every child who walks through its gates.
But the headline moment? A check—bold, oversized, and deeply meaningful—presented to Volunteers for Youth Justice in the amount of more than $8,000. Funds that will go toward advocacy, mentoring, and life skills programming for children navigating some of life’s toughest beginnings.

The week unfolded like a carefully orchestrated symphony of empowerment. Workshops sharpened minds. Plenary sessions sparked dialogue. Certifications and leadership trainings ensured that what happens in Shreveport doesn’t stay in Shreveport—it travels back to communities across Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico.

An exclusive reception featuring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson added a touch of cultural electricity. A gospel brunch with Byron Cage lifted spirits sky-high, while comedian Tonja D. Roberson delivered laughter with surgical precision. The AKApollo Step Show pulsed with rhythm and pride, and keynote author RaShonda Tate poured inspiration into the room like fine champagne.
