Donation Supports Critical Food Rescue Efforts Across All Five Boroughs of New York City
In a major move to combat food insecurity across New York City, the Municipal Credit Union Foundation has donated $150,000 to City Harvest, the city’s largest food rescue organization. This generous contribution underscores the Foundation’s ongoing mission to uplift hardworking New Yorkers by supporting access to basic necessities.
The gift comes at a critical time, as food pantries and soup kitchens across the five boroughs face unprecedented demand. City Harvest projects it will rescue nearly 83 million pounds of nutritious food in 2025 to distribute—free of charge—to more than 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, and community partners.
“No one should go hungry in one of the wealthiest cities in the world,” said George Chacon, President of the MCU Foundation. “We are proud to support City Harvest’s mission to feed our neighbors.”
MCU CEO Kyle Markland echoed that sentiment, adding, “We’re more than a bank—we’re a neighbor. MCU and the MCU Foundation are here for New York City residents in times of need.”
Beyond the financial gift, MCU employees will also volunteer with City Harvest throughout the year, helping distribute meals and support its operations.
City Harvest CEO Jilly Stephens shared her gratitude: “Together with partners like the MCU Foundation, we will feed our city—one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time.”
