Conference Aims to Strengthen Democracy and Protect Essential Liberties
The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) has officially launched its 53rd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) with a resounding call to strengthen American democracy and protect essential liberties. As the nation gears up for a pivotal presidential election year, the ALC’s theme, “From Vision to Victory: Amplifying Black Voices,” takes on even greater significance.
Against the backdrop of recent setbacks in affirmative action and diversity initiatives, the CBCF is determined to secure and sustain progress for Black Americans. Nicole Austin-Hillery, President and CEO of CBCF, emphasized the importance of creating opportunities and ensuring equity for all.
Rep. Terri A. Sewell, Board Chair of CBCF, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the ALC’s role as a catalyst for change. With the possibility of electing the first Black woman president in the near future, the conference serves as a platform to mobilize and empower the Black community.
Amazon, a long-time supporter of the CBCF, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing opportunities for all by donating $30,000 to the organization during the opening press conference. Tonya Hallett, Global Vice President of People, Experiences and Technology at Amazon, expressed pride in supporting the CBCF’s important work.
This year’s ALC, co-chaired by Rep. Lucy McBath and Rep. Troy Carter, will address a wide range of issues affecting Black Americans, including healthcare equality, voting rights, and closing the wealth gap. The conference will feature a National Town Hall focused on equal economic opportunity, as well as a diverse array of panels and workshops.
As the CBCF ALC continues, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the national discourse and driving progress for Black communities across the country.
The event will also be streamed on CBCF’s YouTube channel.
