“UBORA: Celebrating the Sound of Black Excellence” Features Explosive Performances and Awards Ceremony on June 22, 2024

Zion Cathedral’s Juneteenth Celebration Honors Local Trailblazers with Explosive Performances

Freeport, NY – On Saturday, June 22, 2024, Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ will host its third annual Juneteenth celebration, “UBORA: Celebrating the Sound of Black Excellence,” at 6 p.m. This highly anticipated event will take place at Zion Cathedral, located at 312 Grand Avenue, Freeport, NY, and promises to be an evening filled with inspiration, celebration, and community spirit.

The UBORA 2024 event will spotlight the accomplishments of African American pioneers who have made significant contributions to the Black community on Long Island and in the Greater New York area. This year’s celebration will feature a blend of musical performances, powerful words of inspiration, an awards ceremony, museum exhibits, a delectable reception, and more.

Headlining the evening’s entertainment is the renowned pianist Roger L. Jones II and his band, Roger Jones & Higher Calling. Known for their explosive and innovative performances, they are set to deliver a show-stopping musical experience that attendees won’t soon forget.

In addition to the musical performances, the event will honor nineteen distinguished leaders who have excelled in various fields, including education, economic empowerment, leadership, creativity, and vision. The 2024 UBORA honorees are:

The event will also feature performances by Otis Becoat, Sanfu Stoney & Dancers, Voices of Judah of Bethlehem, and the Youth and Dance Ensemble, adding a dynamic and cultural richness to the evening.

“Zion Cathedral is uniquely positioned to honor Black excellence, and I am thrilled about the ‘Power of Possibilities,’” said Bishop Frank A. White, Pastor of Zion Cathedral. “This celebration acknowledges the remarkable yet often unrecognized contributions of African Americans in our nation.”

Sponsored by the Vision 2024 Strategic Planning Committee, UBORA will also offer attendees the opportunity to explore the unique Black History Mobile Museum. Tickets for the awards presentation and museum access are available for $86 and can be purchased at zioncathedral.ticketlocity.com.

Zion Cathedral, a ministry that has grown from fewer than 75 adults to over 1,500 members, is dedicated to empowering a generation of believers to take dominion and walk in their rightful place in every area of their lives. The church is also home to the OM Kelly Washington White Religious Training Institute and the Bishop Frank O. White Digital Learning Center.
