On May 17th at 12:00 PM, Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck, New York, will host the 51st Annual Bethune/Height Recognition Program (BHRP), organized by the New York State Coalition of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). This year’s luncheon, themed “Speak Truth to Power: Silence Is Not an Option,” promises to be a powerful reminder of the importance of using one’s voice to create change, stand up for justice, and advocate for equality.
This year’s theme emphasizes the need for courage in the face of injustice and the critical role each individual plays in speaking out against oppression. The message is clear—silence, especially in times of social and racial unrest, only perpetuates the status quo. It’s time to speak truth to power, just as Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and Dr. Dorothy I. Height did throughout their lives, using their platforms to fight for civil rights, women’s empowerment, and social justice. The BHRP is an opportunity to celebrate and continue their legacy, while recognizing those who carry the torch forward today.
The event will honor organizations and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, including Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and The Order of Eastern Star, two organizations that have long been at the forefront of empowering communities and advocating for positive change.
Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley, the president and chief executive officer of NCNW, will deliver the keynote address. Her message will undoubtedly resonate with the theme, as she brings her insight into the power of speaking out against inequality and the role of women in leading the charge for social transformation.
Vendors will also play an important role at this year’s event. The designated vendor space will allow attendees to support local entrepreneurs and small businesses, showcasing a variety of products including fashion, wellness, jewelry, and more. It’s a unique opportunity to connect commerce with community while amplifying voices in a tangible way.
Members from various sections of NCNW across New York will gather to show their support. Representing a wide range of locations, including Long Island, Queens County, Bronx County, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Upstate New York, and Western New York, they will come together to celebrate the impact of those being honored at the BHRP.
Select members from all sections in New York State of NCNW will be part of a special tribute to Achievers. These individuals, recognized for their extraordinary contributions to community service, leadership, and social advocacy, will be publicly acknowledged for their work in advancing the NCNW’s mission. Their efforts serve as an inspiration to all who strive to make a positive impact in their communities.
The 51st Annual Bethune/Height Recognition Program is not just an event—it’s a call to action. The theme “Speak Truth to Power: Silence Is Not an Option” serves as a reminder of the importance of speaking up in the face of injustice and continuing to fight for a world where equality and opportunity are accessible to all.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of this empowering event. This year’s BHRP will be an unforgettable afternoon of reflection, inspiration, and action. Let’s come together to honor the legacy of Drs. Bethune and Height while committing ourselves to the continued pursuit of justice.
