City of Brotherly Love Makes History (and Sparkles) with World’s Largest Drag Queen Story Time Extravaganza

Philly Slays with World Record-Breaking Drag Queen Story Time!

Forget fireworks, Philly kicked off Pride Month with a fierce bang! The City of Brotherly Love snatched the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the “largest attendance at a drag queen story time reading,” proving that love and acceptance come in all shades (and sequins).

Imagine this: Independence Mall, a historic landmark, pulsating with vibrant energy as over 263 attendees gathered for a story time extravaganza hosted by the fabulous Philadelphia Gay News and Visit Philadelphia®. Renowned drag queens, decked out in dazzling costumes, weren’t just turning heads – they were turning the page on inclusivity for a new generation.

Glitter, not Grit:

Held at the prestigious National Constitution Center, the event wasn’t just about breaking records, it was about fostering a love for reading in a fun and fabulous way. Brittany Lynn, a drag queen extraordinaire and champion of LGBTQIA+ rights, emceed the event with her signature sass.

Story Time Gets a Makeover:

Forget boring bedtime stories! The drag queens brought their own brand of magic to classics like “Hello, Philadelphia!” and “The Family Book.” Plus, with titles like “‘Twas the Night Before Pride” and “Kevin the Unicorn: It’s Not All Rainbows,” the message was clear: love is love, and everyone deserves a happily ever after.

Making History, One Story at a Time:

“Philadelphia is the birthplace of freedom,” said Mark Segal, publisher of Philadelphia Gay News. “This record-breaking event is a powerful reminder of our city’s resilience and vibrant LGBTQIA+ culture.” Neil Frauenglass, from Visit Philadelphia, echoed the sentiment. “What better way to kick off Pride Month in the birthplace of democracy than with this inclusive celebration?”
