The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation will benefit from an event created by teen advocates
Approximately 175 kids (and their parents) attended the Kids Cancel Cancer fundraiser benefiting the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF). This event was organized and created by four teen advocates – Mischa Abend, Abey Fuks, Ava Litman, and Hayley Silvers. Kids Cancel Cancer Foundation plans to establish a Pediatric Research Grant in their honor. Up to two years of support will be provided by this special fund.
A committee of 18 friends was also formed by the teenage co-chairs to sell tickets, collect sponsorships, raise donations, and volunteer at the event. Additionally, the East Hampton Clubhouse hosted the event in August to raise funds for groundbreaking research. A thrilling live auction, arcade games, bowling, good food, raffle prizes, and dancing rounded out a fun evening on March 17th.

About Pediatric Cancer:
While pediatric cancer deaths have declined by 65 percent over the past few decades, cancer remains a leading cause of death for children and teenagers. In fact, it is estimated that 10,500 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed among children (birth to 14 years old) each year, and about 1,190 children will die from the disease. Additionally, a recent study published in Aging AND Cancer found that childhood cancer survivors experience serious health issues in adult life, much earlier than their counterparts who did not have cancer as a kid.
